The renowned German actor, considered a legend even in Hollywood, has died at the age of 81 in Palm Springs, California, USA.

This was reported by the US newspaper Variety, citing his partner and artistic collaborator Delbert McBride, as well as the British daily The Guardian. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed.

Born in Cologne, Udo Kier was one of the most successful German actors to make a mark in Hollywood. He held supporting roles in major productions such as Armageddon, Ace Ventura, Blade, and My Own Private Idaho, but he was especially well known and appreciated among fans and connoisseurs of independent and arthouse cinema.

He frequently appeared in major roles under acclaimed directors such as Lars von Trier, Gus Van Sant, Christoph Schlingensief, and Quentin Tarantino.
