Music lovers once again turned out in large numbers for the Blues Express Festival in Differdange, enjoying a lively atmosphere at one of Luxembourg’s most unique music events. The historic steam locomotives alone transported over 2,000 visitors from Pétange up to the Fond-de-Gras, while the mining train (Minièresbunn) operated throughout the evening, taking festivalgoers to Zowaasch. Many people also used the shuttle buses to experience the 22nd edition of the Blues Express, making the most of the different ways to access the festival venues.
The festival traces its origins back to the early 2000s, when Differdange’s local authorities sought to offer free summer concerts to residents and visitors from the Greater Region. The concept quickly took off, focusing on blues music and building a loyal following over the years.
This year, the event featured performances by 41 bands on 12 different stages, creating a festive atmosphere from 6pm until 1am. Visitors danced, sang along, and enjoyed memorable moments with friends and fellow music fans throughout the night.
Looking ahead, Differdange is planning to expand its musical offering for younger audiences. In May next year, the municipality will host a new DJ festival, targeting youth in the Kordall region. "There is not yet much on offer here for young people", said Tom Ulveling, Differdange’s alderman for culture, in conversation with RTL.
The new electronic music event is set to take place at the CID, the technical services hall of the municipality.
