Deftones have returned with a surprise new single titled My Mind Is a Mountain, marking their first new music since 2020's Ohms.
Premiered via Zane Lowe on Apple Music, the track delivers the band’s familiar dynamic, juxtaposing atmospheric textures with dense guitar-driven heaviness.
Early reactions praise its dreamy yet punishing soundscape, suggesting a stylistic throughline with albums like Koi No Yokan and Ohms.
The release follows a last minute cancellation of a slot at Glastonbury and cryptic teasers earlier in the week, fuelling anticipation for more.
The new single introduces their upcoming tenth studio album, titled Private Music, which is set to be released on 22 August 2025, via Reprise/Warner.
The record includes 11 tracks, with names like Locked Club, ~Metal Dream, and Departing the Body. Longtime collaborator Nick Raskulinecz returned to co-produce the album, which will be the band's first without former bassist Sergio Vega, who exited in 2021.
Private Music was recorded across diverse locations from Malibu and Joshua Tree to Nashville imbuing it with an expansive and meditative feel. Early word coming out of Camp Tones points to themes of spiritual searching, nature, and personal transformation.

Deftones are also launching a North American tour starting on the same day as the album’s release, with support from Phantogram, Idles, and The Barbarians of California, plus a special joint performance in Toronto with System of a Down.
Being that Deftones are good pals with the promoters at den A, here's hoping for a swift return for Chino and Co.
“The creative part, to me, is always kind of the funnest part of being in this band,” Chino shared, in a conversation with Kerrang. “Performing is great, but coming up with something out of nothing, that feeling cannot be topped. And so when you get in the room with your friends, we’re laughing, we’re having fun and then someone does something and then I react to it or they react to what I’m doing, it goes in a circle and then, all of a sudden, we lift our heads up and there’s something that exists that didn’t exist before we walked in that room. That’s just great.”
