Jeff Goldblum is bringing his signature charm and jazz finesse to Rockhal on 26 April with The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra, and we caught up with him for a lively chat – now available on RTL Play.
Ahead of his upcoming concert with The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra at Rockhal on April 26th, we caught up with Jeff for a brilliantly fun interview (which you can now listen to on RTL Play). The concert, organised by den Atelier, promises to be a lively, laid-back celebration of jazz, and we’ll be giving away tickets on Today Radio next week.
One of the highlights of our chat? Hearing how Jeff’s star-studded collaborations came to life in the most unexpected ways. From Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo to Scarlett Johansson, it turns out Jeff’s musical projects often grow out of casual conversations, not boardroom planning. These guest artists all feature on his upcoming album Still Blooming, which is set for release on April 25th.
“You're so right, Fiona Apple and Miley Cyrus. Gregory Porter is so great, and Kelly Clarkson,” he told us when we brought up how his collaborators often come from outside the jazz world. “But, yes, that's right. And it's, you know, we had no strategy. It's been kind of organic all along. One thing has led to another.”

And sometimes, those moments happen on set. “When I was doing that movie Wicked, you know, the second one, which is coming out a little later this year, that's when I met Ariana and Cynthia. So fantastic, great actors and great musicians, and we got to talking and singing everything in the world. It occurred to us then, and that's when we developed this little idea to do something together.”
Then there’s Scarlett Johansson: “Just this last year, we were at the premiere of Asteroid City, the second Wes Anderson movie that we've done together, and we just got to talking at the premiere. And she said, ‘Hey, you have this band, maybe I could sing something.’ And she had that idea about that song, ‘The Best Is Yet to Come,’ and in the bossa nova style, which Alex Frank and Joe Bagg arranged for her.”
Goldblum describes the process as “a surprise... spontaneous and organic.” It’s all part of what makes his music so joyfully unpredictable.
