After the Robbie Williams concert in Paris, which was supposed to be my last of this tour, I felt like doing one more. I have always wanted to go to the open air in Luxembourg, so when a Robbie fan I knew was selling her ticket I bought it and planned the trip to Luxembourg.
To be honest the whole local experience turned out to be in my top 3 of worst and most unsafe. In the review I read it says ‘polite amble’, but our experience was nothing like that.
It all started with the local security team being very uninformative and unfriendly to the people arriving at the location. Although we had informed the local security there would be over 100 people already there at lunch time, they were unprepared and in their own words: “we do not care”. Clearly the visitor's safety was (and I quote) “Not our problem”.
The queue was arranged by number as it is done 98% of the Robbie shows. The group of fans always work together with the local and touring crew, and it gives everyone (from number 1 in the queue to the last one in) a nice experience. But above all a safe experience. Most of the crew at LuxExpo did not care about safety. The most common response was: “Don’t worry you’ll get a great spot. And if something goes wrong, we will call an ambulance”.
Fans organising the queue with numbers is not about getting a great spot. It is about safety. Because unfortunately there are always people, yes even grown men, that only care about their own spot and push or run over others to get there. And that’s exactly what happened here. We were threatened, pushed, and stepped on. Two people actually have burn marks on their necks from the ‘safety’ tape (editor's note: we were sent an image of the injury but have not included it here). Something that could have easily been avoided. But mister ‘I’ve been doing this for 20+ years’ was even laughing at that after the show.
The show itself was great! For some a bit too much talking but trust me Rob talks more in the stadium shows. You could tell Rob loved the crowd that filled the scenic car park, and he gave them what they paid for: to be heavily entertained. We really enjoyed seeing this show one more time. Even though the stage was the highest I have ever seen, we sang and danced and had a good time. The acoustics I must say, were also really good!
So yeah, concert wise: loved it! But the organisation should really evaluate and improve their services, so people are and feel safe.
