Jeck im Sunnesching arrived in Stadtbredimus on Sunday, bringing Cologne carnival music, costumes, and summer festival atmosphere to the banks of the Moselle.
The event began in Cologne in 2015 as a pub and street festival celebrating "Kölsch" music and has since grown into one of the largest summer festivals dedicated to the genre. It now regularly takes place in cities including Cologne, Bonn, and Aachen, as well as St Vith in Belgium.
Sunday's edition in Stadtbredimus marked the festival's first appearance in Luxembourg.
The programme featured well-known groups from the Cologne carnival scene, including Höhner and Räuber, with many visitors embracing the concept by turning up in costume.
Organiser Serge Pütz said the music itself was at the heart of the event. "The better-known bands obviously attract people, but they also come because of the concept and the carnival music", he said.
Pütz explained that the original idea was born from the contrast between Cologne's traditional winter carnival season and the quieter summer months.
"Carnival is usually in winter, often in bad weather, so two young people in Cologne came up with the idea of bringing carnival into the summer", he said.
Organisers will now review how the Luxembourg premiere went together with the Moselle associations involved in staging the event. Pütz said a second edition was already a possibility.
