French Movie AwardsNo César for Luxembourgish feature film "Pachamama"

RTL Today
On Friday was the 44. edition of the César Awards, France's national film awards.

Alex Lutz won best actor for the movie Guy. Léa Drucker won best actress and Xavier Legrand received best director for the movie Jusqu’à la garde. Robert Redford was honoured with a ''César d’Honneur’’.

Luxembourgish film Pachamama was nominated in the Best animation category. The film by Juan Antin was coproduced by France, Canada and Luxembourgish firm Doghouse Films. In the end, the Luxembourgish film unfortunately did not scoop a prize as Michel Ocelot’s Dilili à Paris won the award in that category.

What is it about?
Peru, at the time of the Incas and conquistadores. Enter Tepulpäi and Naïra, two youngsters living with their parents in a little Andean village. The Indios are farmers and live off the riches provided by “Pachamama” (Mother Earth). To ensure that their fields keeps providing them with food, they worship a golden statue, which is stolen by a gang of Incas , who are known to regularly steal food from the village. In search of the statue, the two children go on a journey to Inca capital Cuzco. Just as they arrive in Cuzco at the end of a long journey, the city is being attacked and besieged by Spanish conquistadores. Challenges for the young adventurers abound.

The 44th César ceremony was presented by Kristin Scott Thomas. Humorist Kad Merad led the event.
