A film co-produced in Luxembourg, “How to Divorce During the War,” has won the Best Director award in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City.
The winning film is directed by Lithuanian filmmaker Andrius Blaževičius and co-produced by Luxembourg’s Red Lion, in collaboration with production companies from Lithuania, Ireland, and Czechia.
The production featured a significant Luxembourgish contribution, both in its crew and cast, including actress Gintare Parulyte in one of the roles.
Set in Vilnius in 2022, the film intertwines the story of a divorce with the realities of war and the refugee crisis, weaving together themes of political polarisation, radicalisation, and the conflict between personal comfort and collective responsibility. The award underscores the international reach and creative quality of audiovisual projects supported by the Luxembourg Film Fund.
This 2026 edition was also historic, marking the final Sundance Festival to be held in Park City. Beginning in 2027, the festival will relocate to Boulder, Colorado.
