Award-winning Irish author and illustrator Paddy Donnelly will visit Luxembourg this week for two special events celebrating imagination and children's books.

On 30 October, the Embassy of Ireland will host a family reading featuring Donnelly and Luxembourgish author Marc Weydert, followed by creative storytelling sessions at the Luxembourg City Library on 31 October.

Paddy Donnelly in conversation with Today Radio

"I'm really looking forward to coming down to Luxembourg and doing some events with the local kids," Donnelly said. "I'll be reading some of my stories, and we'll do some drawing, maybe even invent new mythical creatures together."

Irish Ambassador Jean McDonald said the initiative reflects the Embassy's commitment to engaging with younger audiences and celebrating bilingual storytelling:

"This is an initiative, now in its second year, that we are very proud of. We're delighted to engage with younger members of our community, as well as their parents and guardians, with readings in both English and Luxembourgish that reflect the shared heritage of this younger generation."

McDonald added that the Embassy is proud to promote Donnelly's work in Luxembourg and to collaborate with the Ville de Luxembourg and the City Library, calling public libraries "an incredibly important part of the social fabric of any town or city."

Donnelly, who lives in Belgium, has published more than 25 books, including The Vanishing Lake, Fox & Son Tailers, and Badger Books, which won Picture Book of the Year at the 2025 Indie Book Awards.

Paddy Donnelly appears at the Embassy of Ireland on 30 October (email eventsluxembourg@dfa.ie) and the Luxembourg City Library on 31 October.
