James Gunn's upcoming Superman film, simply titled 'Superman', is generating significant excitement among fans.

As the first major project under his leadership of DC Studios, Gunn is tasked with re-imagining, if not, reinvigorating the iconic superhero.

The film, set to be released in 2025, seems to focus on a younger Superman, navigating the challenges of balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his upbringing on Earth as Clark Kent. So far, so Smallville (and just about every other screen version of Supes thus far)

While exact plot details remain under wraps, Gunn has promised a tone that is both hopeful and grounded, emphasizing Superman’s role as a symbol of truth, justice, and hope. Unlike some of the darker portrayals in the past, Gunn's Superman will bring optimism back to the character, aligning more with the classic values that have made him a beloved hero for decades.

Gunn, who has been heralded for his work on Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad is expected to blend heart, humor, and spectacle—qualities that have become staples of his filmmaking style, and of course, whistling.

As for the trailer itself, it opens with Superman in a bit of a pickle, bruised and bleeding in a snowy tundra (he is, the internet says, also in the Yamcha's dead pose) before asking Krypto to take him home. From there out we glimpse monstrous foes, more villians you can shake a stick at and Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor. We can see the beat points of what will be an emotional journey, with Clark coming to terms with his identity, embracing his role as Superman, and the responsibilities that come with it.

And then there's the reworking of John William's iconic score.

It's been a while that there's a trailer that gives hope for the superhero genre, that is more than a little fatigued of late, and this one seems, on the surface at least, to address the darker trend of recent years.

Fans are also going nuts on Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner and whether that's a Lantern Ring or Kryptonite, there's plenty to unpack in this short slice of action.
