...or read on to find their five picks!
"An American Marriage" by Tayari Jones
The New York Times praised the book, and Sasha and Meredith both recommend it. The novel tells the story of a black man wrongly accused and imprisoned for five years just as his marriage begins. It explores typical marital challenges and the broader issue of racial profiling. The unique format of letters between the characters adds depth to their struggle to maintain their connection.

"Nightbitch" by Rachel Yoder
Meredith is excited about the upcoming film adaptation of "Nightbitch" by Rachel Yoder, expected in September or October. The intriguing cover, featuring a giant steak, hints at the novel's quirky premise: an ambitious artist and new mother believes she is turning into a dog. The book humorously and insightfully explores the transformation of identity in motherhood and career.

"The Bee Sting" by Paul Murray
Sasha is slightly hesitant to recommend "The Bee Sting" by Paul Murray due to its length (650 pages), but she assures it's a fast-paced family saga set in post-2008 rural Ireland. Different family members narrate their struggles, from a frustrated teenage girl to an overlooked 12-year-old boy. The book balances humor with poignant moments, making it Sasha's top summer read.

"Funny Story" by Emily Henry
Meredith highlights "Funny Story" by Emily Henry, an author popular on Bookstagram and BookTok. Known for her humor, Henry's latest book starts with a dramatic breakup and follows the protagonist's life with her ex-fiancé's childhood best friend's former boyfriend. Targeted at female readers aged 16–45, the book promises light-hearted fun without being smutty or overly complex.

"Alchemy" by S. J. Parris
Sasha's final recommendation is "Alchemy" by S. J. Parris, a historical thriller set in 16th century Prague. The story follows monk Giordano Bruno as he investigates a murder in the Holy Roman Emperor's court. The novel delves into historical details like the search for the Philosopher's Stone and the treatment of Jewish people, making it both an engaging and educational read.
