The Autumn edition of the British & Irish Film Festival Luxembourg opens this Wednesday with a special screening of "A Haunting in Venice".

Festival organiser Geoff Thompson sat down with Today Radio's Melissa Dalton yesterday on The Home Stretch to tell us what to expect.

Running from 13 to 28 September at the iconic venues of Cinémathèque and Ciné Utopia in Luxembourg City, the festival promises a mesmerizing showcase of cinema from the UK and Ireland.

Run by the Festival Events Asbl, the festival brings a unique proposition to movie enthusiasts in Luxembourg, providing them an early viewing of 12 feature-length films from a wide range of genres.

Emphasizing primarily independent cinema, the festival also includes the screening of five intriguing short films, a seminar, and an exciting Young Filmmaker Competition.

This year's festival will commence with the Irish comedy-drama, “The Miracle Club”, and will sign off with the captivating English production “The Outfit”, set against the backdrop of Chicago's underworld.

Also featuring is Ken Loach's final film, "The Old Oak."

Other notable screenings include "Little Duke", "A Haunting in Venice", and "Mending the Line", with a special evening dedicated to short films like the Oscar-winning “An Irish Goodbye” and Oscar-nominated “The Red Suitcase”.

Q&A Sessions and Ticket Info

The festival will also host some of the most prominent personalities from the industry for exclusive post-screening Q&A sessions. Visitors can expect to interact with Barry Ward from "Sunlight", director Andy Bausch of "Little Duke", Lydia Little representing "Breaking Out", director Adrian Sibley of "The Ghost of Richard Harris", and three talented short film directors.

Festival attendees also get the opportunity to have their say by voting in the Audience Award, and two lucky voters will stand a chance to win either a magnum of Bernard-Massard's crémant or a hamper from Home from Home. The Association Luxembourgeoise de la Presse Cinématographique (ALPC) members will be casting their vote for the critic’s award.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Geoff Thompson, Festival Organiser and President of Festival Events Asbl, commented: “The festival’s evolution to a Spring Edition and an Autumn Edition is working well. Attendance numbers were very encouraging in March, and we hope that our traditional September slot will continue to see our audience numbers grow."
