"It's the heart of Europe. A political centre, a hotbed of power and money. That's what Luxembourg is famous for. But the mini-monarchy also inspires with its diverse landscapes. From the fairy tale forests of the north to the tender Moselle valley in the east, from the impressive rock formations in Luxembourg's Little Switzerland to the water-rich regions in the west."

That's how the voice-over of ARTE's documentary launches into the episode, part of a documentary series that embarks on a journey of discovery through Europe's micro-states. And indeed, whereas many documentaries typically cover Luxembourg's political and financial landscapes, this one in particular focuses on the Grand Duchy's role in sustainability and green future.

In the 45-minute programme, which combines impressive aerial drone footage with interviews, filmmaker Susanne Utzt speaks to people from different regions that define this country in their own particular field.

Interviewees include Jo Goergen of the Mëllerdall Nature Park on protecting the local area, winemaker Corinne Kox on viticulture, Frank Richarz on keeping reservoir water clean, star chef René Mathieu and his world-famous vegetable restaurant at Bourglinster Castle, and finally city beekeeper Hugo Zeler.

"It's the people that define this country" - a beautiful journey through the Grand Duchy (albeit in German/French), shedding light on the impressive scenery and kindness of its residents.

The video is available until 26 June 2021 on ARTE's website.
