The World Athletics Road Running Championships took place on Saturday morning in Copenhagen, Denmark, with Luxembourg represented by four athletes.
Vera Bertemes-Hoffmann and Marine Joblin flew the flag for Luxembourg in the women’s races, while Fidelio Klein and Ruben Querinjean – last year’s Sportsman of the Year and European 3,000m steeplechase silver medallist – competed in the men’s events.
In the men’s mile, Germany’s Robert Farken took first place in 3:51.80, followed by American Yared Nuguse. Ruben Querinjean finished third, clocking 3:52.77 and, in the process, smashing his own Luxembourg national record set just a week earlier at the LëtzRoadmile by roughly 10 seconds. This result marks yet another outstanding performance for Querinjean, who recently claimed silver at the European Athletics Championships and won the Lëtz Mile. Fidelio Klein finished 46th with a time of 4:11.85.
In the women’s 1,600m, French runner Agathe Guillemot took gold with a time of 4:22.74. Silver went to Ethiopia’s Freweyni Hailu and bronze to Kenya’s Mirriam Cherop. Vera Bertemes-Hoffmann placed 20th, while Marine Joblin set a new personal best with 4:54.95, finishing 39th.
