On Monday morning, the Luxembourg women’s football team took revenge for their 3-2 defeat on Friday, beating Cyprus soundly with three goals to nil in the second of their friendly matches. The Red Lionesses took the lead in the fourth minute after a cross from Caroline Jorge was deflected into the goal by one of the Cypriot defenders.

In the 24th minute Hannah Dietrich made it 2-0 with an impressive solo effort, bypassing her opponent and sending the ball into the far corner with a targeted strike. Shortly before the break, Kimberley Dos Santos hit a beautiful shot which the goalkeeper had no chance of reaching to make it 3-0.

In the second half, Amy Thompson and captain Laura Miller made appearances to help their team hold on to the lead. Luxembourg dominated in terms of possession but did not have many more shots on goal.

The friendlies form part of the Red Lionesses’ preparations for the National League 2026, in which they will face off against Scotland, Belgium and Israel in group B4. Their goal is to maintain their place in the group and avoid the play-offs, for which they will need to place among the two best teams in third place in order to stay in League B.
