On Thursday morning, Minister of Public Works Yuriko Backes unveiled plans to the Chamber committee for a new sports secondary school building in Mamer. Since the current sports school in Cents opened its doors in 2012, the number of pupils has risen from 318 to 506, pushing the current infrastructure to its limits.
The site currently has 15 training pitches, 60 shuttle services to training sessions per week, and boarding facilities with space for 49 pupils.
The new building presented by Backes on Thursday will be able to accommodate up to 646 pupils and 160 teachers, while offering boarding space for 160 students. It will have integrated solar panels of up to 4,200 square meters, producing up to 845 megawatt hours a year.
The school will be situated in Mamer's "An Hiwéng" district. The budget for the project is set at €308 million.
