Spaniard Raul Cuerva Mora will embark on a new challenge as head coach on Monday 15 December.

After weeks of internal rumours surrounding the appointment, on Friday morning the Luxembourg Karate Federation confirmed the 29-year-old from Toledo would be taking the key role. He previously served as Sweden’s head coach from 2022 to 2025, and reached the top 15 in the world rankings for the 67kg category in his own personal career.

Jenny Warling criticises rumour mill

Luxembourg’s karate number 1, Jenny Warling, published a statement to the Federation this week highlighting certain issues, such as the rumours surrounding the sacking of former national coach Raphael Veras and his assistant Michaël Lecaplain. She said the rumours had impacted the team negatively, bringing the overall mood down. She felt some personal responsibility for the fate of the coaching staff, due to her early elimination at the world championships in Cairo this November. She said her preparation for the competition had been fine but that she had not experienced her best day at the tournament.

The statement did not comment on the future for Raphael Veras and Michaël Lecaplain.
