Barthel swam a time of 4:55.85 in the 400m individual medley on Thursday 18 December, improving the previous national record set by Monique Olivier in 2015 (4:56.99) by over a second.

The following day, on Friday, she went on to improve her own national record in the 200m breaststroke, setting a new time of 2:35.34.

Her coach Christophe Audot was greatly pleased with Emma’s performance: “Emma delivered two hugely impressive performances. My personal highlight was her swim in the 400m individual medley. Now it’s time to make the most of the holiday break, after which we’ll start setting new goals with the same level of commitment and preparation.”
