The Jeunesse Jonglënster football club, based in Junglinster, has officially withdrawn its women's football team from the Luxembourg national championship.
The women's team experienced major wins in previous years, winning six league titles and six cup trophies, with their most recent double triumph dating back to 2018. The following seasons proved to be difficult as the club faced a number of challenges.
Under coach Julien Turnau, results improved slightly over the past two years, and Junglinster managed to reach the playoffs in consecutive seasons. However, Turnau’s move to Differdange this summer left Junglinster searching for a replacement, and his successor, Dan Kontz, remained in charge for just one month.
Instability and challenges within the club have become more prevalent, as sports director Claudio Oliveira resigned and Junglinster lost several key players, such as Mateus, Becker, Merlevede, and Keil, with no new signings secured.
The uncertainty that had been building in recent weeks has now culminated in the club's official withdrawal from the 2026 championship. It is not yet clear whether a team from Junglinster's second division will be promoted to fill the first league's shoes.
