On Thursday, FC Atert Bissen addressed the confrontation between supporters following Sunday's match, and the criticism from Jeunesse Esch regarding the communication channels used to denounce the events.
In the press release, Bissen stated their supporters had been provoked and attacked by a group of Jeunesse Esch fans when leaving the stadium. In the ensuing confrontation, a Bissen flag was stolen and burned, while a fan was beaten up and left injured.
The club, however, emphasised that not all Jeunesse fans were guilty and, on the contrary, some had tried to defuse the situation.
After Sunday's events, FC Atert Bissen published a post on social media to report on the violent incident. Jeunesse Esch criticised the timing of the post and said they would have preferred direct dialogue instead of a social media message, while adding that no one from Bissen had approached them to discuss the incident on the evening, even though Jeunesse staff had been on site until around 11pm.
In their official response, Bissen admitted they had reacted too quickly with the social media post, and that it would have been better to take time to consider the incident and to speak directly to those involved. The club added it is not their intention to create conflict between the two clubs, the players, or the staff, and they would be available for discussion going forward.
