In the first leg of their Conference League qualifying tie, Differdange were forced to settle for a 0-0 stalemate against Finland's Ilves Tampere on Wednesday evening.

Differdange drew 0-0 in front of their own fans in the first leg of the Conference League qualifiers against Finland's Ilves on Wednesday evening. All is still to play for in the return leg next week.

After the Supercup, Differdange had their second official match of the new season on the fixture list on Wednesday evening. Their opponents Ilves Tampere, by contrast, are already well into the Finnish season. Fifteen games in, the club sits ninth in the championship and only changed head coach on Monday.

Both sides served up a balanced game with few clear-cut chances. Differdange tried to dictate the tempo in front of their home crowd, but managed only rarely to break a sweat in the Finnish. Ilves, for their part, held their defence compactly and looked to spring quick counters, though they too presented no large threat by the end. Ultimately, neither team managed to find the net. A goalless draw leaves everything open for the return leg on 16 July in Finland. The winner will advance to the second qualifying round of the Conference League.

On Tuesday, Strassen had already got their Conference League qualifying campaign under way, while Bissen kicked off their Champions League qualifying run.
