Differdange were unable to avenge last season's missed league title, losing 4–2 on penalties to Atert Bissen at Stade Achille Hammerel after taking an early lead. For Bissen, meanwhile, it was the perfect start to the new season.

In front of a packed stadium, Differdange made an ideal start taking a 1–0 lead inside the opening minute. New signing Chaverra Jossimar found the bottom-left corner with a powerful strike.

After chances at both ends, Bissen drew level in the 17th minute when Khalid Abi Ramzi kept his composure in front of goal.

Little happened after the drinks break in the 25th minute, and the sides went into half-time level at 1–1.

Differdange then made matters more difficult for themselves after the interval. Chaverra Jossimar, who had scored the opening goal, was sent off following a foul, leaving Differdange with 10 men.

The dismissal did little to change the course of the match, however, with neither side creating many clear-cut chances. Shortly before the end, Tyron Crame had an opportunity to put Bissen 2–1 ahead, but his shot was blocked.

With the score still level at 1–1, the match was decided by a penalty shoot-out. Bissen goalkeeper Hélio César proved the difference, saving three penalties.

Bissen secured the first trophy of the season with a 4–2 shoot-out victory, picking up where they had left off after winning the league title last season.
