Disappointments for the Luxembourg team continue at the Paris Olympics as table tennis icon Ni Xia Lian lost to world number one Sun Yingsha in the second round of the competition.
Willing but forced to play mainly defensive shots, Ni Xia Lian lost four sets to nil to world number one Sun Yingsha from China on Wednesday morning. Largely dominated in the first two sets (11-5 then 11-1), Ni recovered in the third, even winning an unconverted set point (13-11). However, the Chinese player took control again in the final set (11-4).
It was the end of a fine run for Ni Xia Lian, who at 61 became the oldest player to win a match at the Olympics.
