The World Championships in Athletics kicked off on Saturday morning in Budapest, Hungary.
It was not a good start for the Luxembourg delegation at the World Athletics Championships. Bob Bertemes, participating in shot put, faced an unfortunate outcome as he fell short of reaching the final. The Luxembourger failed to achieve a valid attempt during the qualification round.
In the current season, Bertemes had already achieved a shot put distance of 21.21 meters, a mark that would have comfortably secured his spot in the final. The entry threshold for the 12 finalists was set at 20.72 meters.
Vera Hoffmann misses semi-final over 1,500 metres
Meanwhile, Vera Hoffmann secured the 12th position out of 14 participants in the women's 1,500-meter race on Friday, thus narrowly missing qualification for the semi-finals.
Recording a time of 4 minutes, 9 seconds, and 76 hundredths, Hoffmann came within three seconds of surpassing her own national record. Progression to the subsequent round at this World Championships hinges on securing a qualifying placement within the respective heat.
Anticipations turn toward Charel Grethen, scheduled to compete in the 1,500-meter race on Saturday evening.
