Minella's final participation at the tournament ended with a loss in round two.

It was an emotional moment when Minella's final match ended around 8pm on Wednesday. The Luxembourgish tennis star lost both sets 3:6 against Alizé Cornet from France. It was the last time that the 35-year-old will perform in the singles category in Kockelscheuer.

On Tuesday, Minella crowned her 17th and final participation with an opening win in round one, an achievement which she never managed before. However, against Cornet on Wednesday, Minella eventually saw the end closing in: "It was really hard to hold back my emotions, but I was happy to have this moment here at home. I want to thank everyone who was present."

Exactly 20 years ago, Minella played her first Luxembourg Open tournament in Kockelschuer at the age of 15. Only nine months ago, the tennis player gave birth to her second child, which is why she was still not back to the top of her game: "I felt my legs were a bit too weak and I was still tired from the previous match on Tuesday. I don't have the consistency anymore to play three or four matches in a row on such a high level."

Later on Wednesday evening, Minella and partner Liudmila Samsonova were also eliminated from the doubles category. Both lost to Bouzkova and Hradecka in two sets (2:6 and 6:7).

At 5.30 pm on Thursday, the organisers of the tournament will host an official farewell ceremony to commemorate Minella's career achievements.

Though Minella will no longer play in Luxembourg, the tennis star still has her eyes on a number of international tournaments, including ones in Ostrawa (CZE) and Astana (KAZ).
