Liverpool signed Belgian goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans on Tuesday, but the 18-year-old will remain on loan at Genk for the rest of the season.

The Reds have reportedly paid a fee that could rise to £30 million ($41 million) for Brughmans, who has made just 15 senior appearances for Genk.

Liverpool's number one Alisson Becker is entering the final year of his contract at Anfield.

Giorgi Mamardashvili was expected to be the long-term replacement for the Brazilian, but the Georgian failed to convince in 20 appearances last season.

Brughmans could now rival Mamardashvili to be Alisson's successor or replace the Georgian next season as back-up should the 33-year-old extend his stay in England.
