Sponsored ContentThe importance of giving: why is it essential to donate ?

Donation as a starting point.

SOS Faim is an NGO approved by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (MFEA). But what does this mean? The aim of this accreditation is to select organisations that offer all the guarantees required to ensure that the subsidies granted by the Luxembourg government are used judiciously and effectively.

This government support is only possible if the NGO receives financial support from the donor (private or institutional) in the first place. Indeed, the Ministry's funding is in reality a co-financing. The starting point of SOS Faim's action is therefore the donation, which is then multiplied by 4 thanks to the mechanism mentioned above.

More than just a bag of rice, but the means to produce and nourish oneself !

This is the slogan of the latest SOS Faim communication campaign. Indeed, the NGO does not distribute food, but supports 23 partners, actors of change, in 7 African countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Mali, Niger, Democratic Republic of Congo and Senegal).

These actors, involved in farmers' organisations, microfinance institutions and human rights organisations (in particular farmers' rights to land, seeds and natural resources), are all involved in the change that must take place to eliminate hunger and poverty. About 500,000 people in Africa benefit from the support provided by SOS Faim to its partners.

Odette Nshobole

For this fundraising campaign, SOS Faim has decided to present Odette Nshobole, a beneficiary of one of its partners in Africa.

She is the "face" of our campaign for donations. There are thousands of examples like Odette's. We have chosen her story because it represents youth and women. Two profiles that are particularly sensitive in developing countries. Indeed, it is very difficult to have access to land when you are young, and the process is even more difficult if you are a woman, explains Cécile Havard, head of fundraising at SOS Faim.

Urgent needs

In 2020, almost 12% of the world's population lived in a situation of severe food insecurity. That is 928 million people, 148 million more than in 2019.

The emergency has never been so present. By working with committed local actors, SOS Faim has made the choice to give peasant populations the means to produce, to feed themselves and to improve the living conditions of their families. Supporting SOS Faim means enabling these families to achieve food security in the long term !
