If you have not yet fallen under her spell, this is the perfect setting to do so. Rotondes is known for its close connection between artist and audience, and Maria Somerville’s hushed vocals, gauzy guitars and drifting ambient textures feel made for a space where every note can truly breathe.
Maria grew up in Connemara on Ireland’s wild west coast, surrounded by mountains, lakes and Atlantic skies. That landscape still echoes through her music. After relocating to Dublin, she carefully shaped a dreamy, atmospheric sound that blends elements of shoegaze, ambient and post punk, drawing comparisons to artists like Slowdive and Grouper while remaining entirely her own.
Her latest album Luster, released in April 2025, marks a confident new chapter. Written in a house on the banks of Lough Corrib after returning home to Connemara, the record explores themes of homecoming and self discovery. Since its release, Luster has received widespread critical acclaim, including an 8.5 rating and Best New Music designation from Pitchfork, as well as glowing praise from The Guardian. It has also been named one of The FADER’s 30 coolest artists right now. Not bad for someone who first started sharing songs online and steadily built her world from there.
Before Luster, she released All My People in 2019, a beautifully melancholic record steeped in memory and longing. She has also collaborated with RIP Swirl and hosts radio shows on NTS, reflecting her deep love of eclectic soundscapes and sonic storytelling. Now she returns with a new album, a growing international reputation and a live show that promises to be immersive, moving and quietly powerful.
