For fans of the quintessentially British indie rock sound – think the Beatles or Stone Roses or Libertines – the Kooks are a must. With their upcoming Luxembourg show slated for Thursday, 5 February at Rockhal, RTL Today Radio have gotten their hands on some tickets for lucky fans to win.
Formed in 2004 in Brighton, the indie outfit have been going strong since their debut album, Inside In / Inside Out, released in 2006. They soon established themselves as a cornerstone of UK-based indie rock, blending aspects of pop, reggae, ska, funk, and Britpop into their guitar-driven formula.
They have also been foundational in the new millenium’s post-punk revival, bringing back a slightly more somber sound to a genre that, in the early 2000s, was all about bright guitars and flowery lyrics.
Their latest album, Never/Know, taps into a more countercultural sound, eliciting visions of that first wave of 60s alternative rock. And yet they still maintain a summery twinkle to their sound – equally suited for midsummer music festivals and gigs in early-February Luxembourg.
