The mobile kitchen team from the Ettelbruck Firefighters' Association ("Amicale Pompjeeën Ettelbréck") is taking on the challenge of the "Food Truck & Street Food Contest," entering the competition with their traditional pea stew.
Fifteen food trucks from around the world are participating. The team will face international competition by presenting their traditional culinary dish in a new, cold version. It is a unique challenge, and to prepare, they have held several test runs — one of which we captured on camera.
Naturally, the excitement is building as the day approaches, as this is something entirely different from their usual work. They typically cook for large events, youth gatherings, and similar occasions; however, they are also on the front lines during disasters, deploying their kitchen to ensure people have a warm meal.
One recent major disaster was the 2021 flooding in the Ahr Valley, where, for three days, they prepared breakfast as well as hot lunches and dinners for several thousand people. But they are well-prepared; the team works in perfect harmony, and with just a few final touches, they are ready for 22 November.
