
Ukrainian president said he was ready to step down if it meant peace for the country.
“If there is peace for Ukraine, if you really need me to leave my post, I am ready. ... I can exchange it for NATO,” Zelensky told a Kyiv press conference.
At a press conference in Kiev, Zelensky stated that he would trade his resignation for NATO membership. He also stated that he wishes that Donald Trump would become a partner for Ukraine.
Above all, his priority is the guarantee of safety for Ukraine, and he believes that NATO membership would be the best solution.
Monday marks three years since Russia’s first attack on Ukraine. One of the official reasons Russia attacked Ukraine is to attempt to prevent Ukraine from becoming a member of NATO.
The United States recently called for a presidential election in Ukraine. Zelensky’s term officially ended in May of this year. However, due to the current martial law, no elections are currently allowed.
