At around 3.15pm, the fire brigade was called to assist a resident from Longuyon (Meurthe-et-Moselle) at the Heudicourt site, according to Le Républicain Lorrain.
That afternoon, a couple was fishing for carp at Lac de Madine when a sudden and violent gust of wind caused a large tree branch – approximately 40 centimetres in diameter – to break and fall. The woman, in her fifties, was struck on the head by the branch.
Her husband, who was sitting beside her, heard the cracking sound and managed to move out of the way in time. Unfortunately, his wife was unable to do the same.
Bystanders and firefighters attempted to resuscitate the woman, who was in cardiac arrest, but sadly their efforts were unsuccessful.
In response to the incident, the nearby cycle path and treetop adventure course were temporarily closed while emergency services remained on site. The site director also arrived at the scene.
