Beware the boars! The A31 motorway remained partially closed in order to allow a safe wild boar cull and “guarantee user safety,” the Moselle prefecture explained ahead of the cull this Sunday.

To be more precise, the motorway segment between Fey and Hauconcourt in the northbound direction was closed to traffic between 8 and 11.30 am. In the opposite direction (Luxembourg-Nancy), the motorway was only closed between Hauconcourt and Metz.

It is not the first time that the French authorities have ordered a wild boar cull in this region. Already in November 2017, a part of the A31 motorway had to be closed to traffic in order to strategically displace boar populations and reduce the agricultural damage the animals cause. The situation was deemed particularly “problematic” around La Maxe in north-eastern France.
