Germany’s tagesschau news source has reported an attack between passengers on the train from Trier to Saarbrücken on Monday evening. The 21-year-old victim sustained ‘serious injuries’ to his neck, requiring surgery at nearby Winterberg hospital. Police are requesting any information from possible witnesses to the event.
The assailant is currently unknown, with the attack taking place shortly before arrival at the Saarbrücken Central Station at roughly 5:30pm. Previous reports incorrectly stated that the incident took place at the rail station. The perpetrator escaped following the train’s arrival into Saarbrücken. He is reported to have been wearing a grey jacket at the time of the attack, is between 1.80 and 1.90 metres tall (5'9"-6'2"), and has black hair.
The motive of the attack remains unclear. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Saarbrücken Federal Police at +49 06826 522 0.
