The driver of the BMW reportedly did not intend on stopping his vehicle and attempted to take off. The police pursuit ended with the police car crashing into the BMW and bringing it to a halt shortly after midnight on the Hahnplatz in Prüm.
According to the local police inspectorate, two officers were injured. Drugs were later found inside the car. Police also told the “Trierischer Volksfreund” that the BMW was speeding at 160km/h outside of villages.
Last Tuesday, police anonymously received a video that allegedly shows the moments after the BMW came to a stop. The short clip shows a police officer pulling the driver of the BMW out of his car before hitting and kicking the man.
On Wednesday, Trier’s prosecutor’s office confirmed that the driver was indeed hit by a German police officer. The officer is facing battery charges.
An investigation has been launched. Police are calling for witnesses to come forward.
