The fire started in the kitchen of the house in Villerupt. Local fire services from Villerupt and Audun-le-Tiche intervened at 1.30am on Friday morning, taking two lightly intoxicated people into their care. They were taken to hospital for checks.
The fire, in rue Pouyer Quertier, was brought under control by fire fighters, but the kitchen suffered severe damage.
