Police from the Lower Rhine region have launched a call for witnesses following the disappearance of a Polish nurse who resided in Germany. Two men, one of them being the 46 year old victim’s ex-partner, are suspected of having abducted her. They are now wanted in Alsace, police confirmed on Friday.
The same police source indicated that the investigation provided certainty that the woman has indeed been abducted.
In the call for witnesses, the police explained that both the victim, as well as the presumed attackers, are of Polish origin and they do not speak French. They disappeared in the region of Schweighouse-sur-Moder (Lower Rhine) on 5 June 2019.
The police advised potential witnesses to not intervene, as the two men - aged 51 and 23 respectively - may be dangerous. You can reach the police by calling +33 (0)800 35 83 35.
The 51-year-old man is the ex-partner of the victim, Jolanta Szewczyk, and the two of them were reportedly in the process of breaking up.
A camping van that said suspect had been seen in shortly after the supposed kidnapping was found abandoned in the forest near Schweighouse-sur-Moder, some thirty kilometres north of Strasbourg. A police helicopter and a special canine unit were sent to search the area.
At this time, the police has no information on whether the victim is still alive or not and on whether the suspects are still in the border region with Germany.
The German police launched their own call for witnesses on Thursday. On Monday afternoon at around 1.30 pm, Jolanta Szewczyk told her work place in the north of Stuttgart that she needed to leave for a few minutes and then she never returned.
