Emergency services in Berlin reported on Tuesday that a tram derailed in the Lichtenberg district, injuring 20 people. Of those injured, three sustained serious injuries, and 12 were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Initial investigations suggest that the tram struck an electricity pole while navigating a bend. The impact tore away part of the right side of the tram carriage, causing the last carriage to veer off the tracks.
Around 60 firefighters were deployed to the scene to assist the injured and secure the area after the accident.
