The incident took place in Piennes (30km south of Esch-sur-Alzette) earlier this month, when the 64-year-old driver was stopped by a young boy seeking a lift.
According to the Républicain Lorrain, the boy asked to be dropped off a few kilometres away in Joudreville. At the end of the journey, he sprayed the driver with tear gas and told her to get out of her car. The woman was able to take her bag and mobile phone before escaping.
The boy then proceeded to attempt to drive the car away, but crashed into a parked car after 500 metres before running away. In the meantime, the shocked pensioner was able to alert the local gendarmerie.
Police were able to identify the boy, who has since turned thirteen. Summoned before a children’s judge, he has been place in a home ahead of a trial on March 15.
