
LUXEMBOURG COVID - Covid figures in Luxembourg continue to rise. Last week, 680 more people tested positive than the previous week. The incidence rate increased in all age groups, except in children under 9. The highest number was in the age group 90+. 6500 people were in isolation. 4 people died in relation to the coronavirus last week. The situation in hospitals is still relaxed with 26 new patients, one of them in the intensive care unit.
EU IMMIGRATION MEETING - European justice and interior ministers, or those responsible for immigration are meeting in Luxembourg today. For Luxembourg, that is Jean Asselborn. Ministers will discuss Europe’s external borders, above all in the Western Balkans, as well as the situation of refugees within Europe. Due to the latest Russian air attacks on Kyiv and other large Ukrainian cities, many Ukrainians are again on their way to the West.
ACCIDENT DEATH - A 28-year-old motorist has died following a fatal crash on the CR123 yesterday afternoon .According to police, the victim crashed their car into a tree, causing the vehicle to flip onto its roof. Paramedics attempted to treat the man at the scene but were unable to revive him.
UKRAINE NATO - The head of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg has said they will provide Ukraine with hundreds of jammers to counteract Russian and Iranian drones. Stoltenberg said NATO defence ministers had agreed to increase allied stockpiles of munitions.
TRUMP SUBPOENA - Donald Trump is expected to testify two years after the attack on the Capitol in Washington. He has been ordered to give evidence to the US congressional committee, investigating the storming of the Capitol building, in January last year. The committee chairman said there was no doubt the former President led an effort to upturn American democracy, that resulted in the violence by his supporters. Trump has dismissed the committee hearings.
US SHOOTING - A gunman in the city of Raleigh in the US state of North Carolina has killed at least 5 people, including an off-duty police officer. Police said the suspect had been taken into custody.
MARADONA FOOTBALL - The ball that Diego Maradona used to score his infamous “Hand of God” World Cup goal for Argentina against England in 1986 will go up for auction next month and could fetch over 3 million euros. Bidding will start on November 16. The 1986 quarter-final between Argentina and England saw a heated build-up because of political tensions following the Falklands war and came to be defined by two contrasting goals scored by the late Maradona.
INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL - With the start of the evening of the 10th matchday in the German Bundesliga, Schalke will face Hoffenheim and in France, Strasbourg will play Lille.
Yesterday in the Europa League, the Luxembourgish national goalkeeper Anthony Moris played with Union St Gilloise 3-3 against Braga, and thus continued to be top of the group. After the 4-0 victory in Nantes, Freiburg is already in the next rounD.And Arsenal also won 1-0 at Bodo-Glimt and only need one more point to be safe.
