Many like to take advantage of long weekends by going away for a few days, which inevitably involves sitting in a traffic jam, as everybody else had the same idea.

France in particular has experienced this negative side product of long weeks, as the number of people heading away for a few days has caused significant traffic jams. According to Radio France, the country beat its record of traffic jams on Wednesday 29 May, coming in with a staggering 1,340 km of traffic jams throughout the country.

According to the Bison Futé traffic website, both Wednesday and Thursday have been classified in the red category in terms of departures on French routes. At 6.10pm, they recorded 855 km of traffic jams throughout the country alongside 485 km in the Île-de-France region. This broke the record of 24 May 2017, also the day before the Ascension bank holiday, which came in to a total of 1,068 km of traffic jams.

Friday may be less busy than Wednesday and Thursday, but you can be sure that Sunday will again be classified as red in terms of returns on French roads.
