The Paris public prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation into the accident, which will be handled by a special child protection unit.
A report in the Le Parisien newspaper suggested that the child may have suffocated in her parents’ washing machine. The appliance was not turned on.
The parents called emergency services, but the three-year-old was pronounced dead at around 11.30 pm.
