418 litres of spirits — in this case whisky, vodka and tequila — have been seized by the Verdun gendarmerie during the night to Wednesday.
The bottles were stacked in cardboard boxes in a van, which was on its way from Luxembourg to Etain, in the Meuse region.
The two individuals on board were stopped for a routine check in the municipality of Bouligny.
The value of the catch: more than €6500 according to the officers who handed the bottles over to customs.
As a reminder: the import of spirits from Luxembourg into France is limited to 10 litres. You are, however, allowed to import up to 110 litres of beer and up to 90 litres of wine (of which 60 litres of sparkling wine).
