
GREENS TANSON - Sam Tanson is now the official leading candidate of the Greens in the parliamentary elections. The Minister of Justice and Culture was unanimously elected at a congress yesterday evening.
LUXEMBOURG BELGIUM - Under the presidency of Luxembourg, Prime Minister Bettel and his Belgian counterpart De Croo are meeting in Brussels today. One of the subjects is teleworking for Belgian cross-border workers. Luxembourg is also represented by the ministers Bausch, Lenert, Bofferding, Fayot, Hansen and Haagen.
BAZAR CHEQUE - The Bazar International has donated a record amount of €650.000, to humanitarian projects in Luxembourg and abroad. Thanks to the profits made back in November, during the annual Bazar International, the organization supported 43 humanitarian projects, with 4 of them based in Luxembourg and the remaining 39 spread across different continents.
US SHOOTING - The former student who killed three 9-year-olds and three adults in a shooting spree at an elementary school in Nashville was under a doctor’s care for an “emotional disorder” and had amassed a collection of guns. Police Chief John Drake told reporters that the three weapons used on Monday were among seven firearms that Audrey Hale had legally purchased. President Biden has urged congress to ban deadly assault weapons in the wake of the shooting.
FRANCE STRIKES - France saw the 10th strike and protest day against pension reforms yesterday. There were also confrontations with the police.200 people were arrested. Prime Minister Borne invited unions for talks next week ahead of the next strike day, scheduled for April 6th.
EUROPE CLIMATE - The European Court of Human Rights will hear cases against France and Switzerland over alleged failings to protect the environment, the first time governments are in the court’s dock for alleged climate change inaction. Environmental organizations hope that with a conviction, more pressure can be put on governments.
GERMANY KING CHARLES - Britain’s King Charles will make his first state visit as monarch later today, when he visits Germany. He had been due to go to France last Sunday, but widespread protests against pension reforms forced President Macron to postpone the trip. Germany is rolling out the red carpet. King Charles will be the first post-war head of state to receive a full ceremonial welcome at the Brandenburg Gate and the first British monarch to deliver a speech to the German parliament.
AMSTERDAM STAY AWAY - Amsterdam has launched a campaign to discourage tourists planning drug- and alcohol-fuelled parties -- starting with young British men. The new campaign, dubbed “Stay Away”, will involve people searching for terms such as “stag party Amsterdam” or “pub crawl Amsterdam” being shown warning advertisements such as arrests, criminal records and hospitalisation.
MAMMOTH MEATBALL - Food scientists have unveiled a giant meatball made from lab-grown flesh of an extinct woolly mammoth, saying the protein from the past showed the way for future foods. The glistening meatball was displayed under a glass bell jar by Australian-based cultivated meat firm Vow at the NEMO science museum in the Dutch capital Amsterdam. But it is not ready to be eaten just yet, with the thousands-of-years-old protein requiring safety testing before modern humans can tuck in.
FOOTBALL - In the national football championship, tonight is the complete 22nd game day. All 7 games will start at 8 o’clock. Among the games, leader Hesperange will take on Differdange and Dudelange plays Fola Esch.
Staying with football, last night saw more qualifying matches for next year’s European Championship in Germany. Among the highlights Scotland beat Spain 2-0, Switzerland beat Israel 3-0, and Croatia beat Turkey 2-0.
IOC RUSSIA - The International Olympic Committee has issued recommendations for the gradual return to international competitions for Russian and Belarusian athletes as neutrals, with President Thomas Bach saying their participation “works” despite the war in Ukraine. He did not give a timeline on their potential participation at next year’s Paris Olympics.
Starting the day off a bit warmer than yesterday, today will be rather cloudy with some occasional light rainfall in some spots. The sporadic showers are expected to continue into the evening. The morning’s temperatures will start off crisp at 5 to 8°C, rising to 11-14°C in the afternoon.
