The footage is difficult to watch, featuring crippled, dying, exhausted, and weakened chickens struggling to stand up straight to drink. The chickens are then collected by a machine that appears to look like a harvester, which then spits them out onto a conveyor belt into crates heading towards the slaughterhouse. As seen in the video, if the crates are filled to the brim, employees catch the chickens by their feet and brutally throw them on the ground.
L214 revealed that the footage was recorded in April 2019 with a hidden camera in France. As the animal protection association wrote, the investigation revealed the living conditions of chicken in two separate poultry farms, one in the Aube region and the other in the Yonne region. The association pointed out that chickens are piled up by the thousands in buildings without windows.
The association also pointed out that the poultry farmer’s website highlights his engagement and commitment to respecting animals.
