Mos-COWRussian cows get virtual reality goggles to look at summer fields

We're not sure if we find this uncannily dystopian or amoosing. A Russian farm has fitted its cows with VR headsets to reduce the animals anxiety and improve milk production.

The unusual experiment takes place at the RusMoloko farm in Moscow’s Ramensky district. The cows are shown a “unique summer field simulation program,” which is hoped to reduce anxiety and, as a consequence, improve milk yield.

Initial tests reportedly improved “the overall emotional mood of the herd”.

A statement from the ministry explained that “examples of dairy farms from different countries show that in a calm atmosphere, the quantity, and sometimes the quality, of milk increases markedly.”

The VR experiment is part of a long-term study.
