ASSELBORN RUSSIA CONCERNS - Luxembourg’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Jean Asselborn has expressed his concern regarding the ongoing developments in Russia, stating that “the situation is serious.” He pointed out that the current state of affairs was a consequence of Vladimir Putin’s actions, describing it as a “humiliation” for the Russian President. Drawing attention to the global ramifications, Asselborn warned that complete destabilisation of Russia would pose the greatest danger to the world.

WEISWAMPACH VOTE - Two weeks after the elections, Weiswampach announces its newly formed municipal executive. Claude Daman, who secured the highest number of votes, assumes the position of mayor, succeeding Henri Rinnen, who has led the northern municipality for the past 28 years.

RUSSIAN CRISIS - Russia’s crisis involving a mercenary group’s aborted revolt against the Kremlin has exposed “real cracks” in President Vladimir Putin’s rule, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Sunday. He said the Prigozhin drama has shown just how deep of a “failure” the invasion of Ukraine has been for Russia, and how much Putin, whose grip on power had appeared absolute in recent years, is “being challenged from within.”

GREECE ELECTIONS - Kyriakos Mitsotakis embarked Monday on his second term as Greece’s prime minister with a vow to accelerate institutional and economic reforms, after voters handed him a huge election victory for the second time in five weeks. Crediting Mitsotakis and his New Democracy party for bringing economic stability to country, voters gave the conservatives their widest winning margin in almost 50 years.

DARFUR DEATHS - Fighting on Sunday between rival Sudanese generals in Darfur has killed at least a dozen civilians, said a doctor in the devastated region. The United Nations says violence in Darfur has taken an “ethnic dimension” and could constitute “crimes against humanity”.

FOOTBALLER IN COURT - French footballer Benjamin Mendy will return to a UK courtroom today for the start of his retrial for two alleged sexual offences, five months after a jury cleared him of multiple other counts. Mendy, whose contract with Manchester City expires at the end of this month and is reportedly not set to be renewed, has denied all the charges filed against him.

GOLF - Keegan Bradley survived a spate of late bogeys to claim an emotional victory on Sunday at the PGA Travelers Championship in Connecticut. The New Englander led by six strokes after back-to-back birdies at the 11th and 12th and, even after three bogeys in the space of four holes, nothing couldn’t prevent him from lifting the trophy in front of his home state crowd.

GOLD CUP - IN the CONCACAF Gold Cup, Mexico beat Honduras 4-0 on Sunday, Haiti scored a 2-1 victory over Qatar, the USA were held 1-1 by Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago scored a 3-0 win over St Kitts and Nevis.
