""As the United Kingdom leaves the European Union, my government will ensure that it continues to play a leading role in global affairs, defending its interests and promoting its values."

Beginning with Brexit, the Queen has said: “My government’s priority has always been to secure the United Kingdom’s departure from the European Union on 31 October”.

Immigration

How this will be done is said to be by intending to “work towards a new partnership with the European Union, based on free trade and friendly cooperation.”

Immigration will be a cornerstone of the future: “My government remains committed to ensuring that resident European citizens, who have built their lives in and contributed so much to the United Kingdom, have the right to remain.”

There will be a “fair, modern and global immigration system”.

Health

Healthcare and the NHS specifically will see measures brought forward to “support and strengthen the National Health Service, its workforce and resources, enabling it to deliver the highest quality care.”

There will be focus on adult social care and Mental Health Act reform.

The Queen addresses violent crime and measures on reducing such acts by committing to “strengthening confidence in the criminal justice system”.

A new sentencing law will be passed to “better reflect the severity of crimes” and an improved response to foreign national offenders, parole will be worked over, as will support for victims. The Domestic Abuse Bill remains a key topic.

Education

The Queen has ensured that the very best efforts will be amde by minsters to “ensure that all young people have access to excellent education, unlocking their full potential and preparing them for the world of work”.

Planning for a more stable financial future is of utmost importance, this can be achieved, says the Queen by “providing simpler oversight of pensions savings”, as well as “greater powers to tackle irresponsible management of private pension schemes”.

Connectivity

There is a long term vision “to improve the nation’s digital, transport and energy infrastructure” in terms of rail travel network reform and new legislation will “accelerate the delivery of fast, reliable broadband to millions of homes”.

Environment

The Queen acknowledged that environmental concerns were increasingly pressing matters and in order to “protect and improve the environment for future generations”, measures must be taken in the improvements to air and water quality and the issue of plastic waste.

Union - ‘utmost importance’

“My government”, says the Queen “remains committed to working with all parties in Northern Ireland to support the return of devolved government and to address the legacy of the past.”

In closing, the Queen once more returned to the subject of Brexit:

“My government will be at the forefront of efforts to solve the most complex international security issues It will champion global free trade and work alongside international partners to solve the most pressing global challenges.

“It will prioritise tackling tackling climate change and ensuring that all girls have access to 12 years of quality education.”
