Twitter users were infuriated when Baker posted a picture of a couple holding the hand of a chimpanzee instead of a human baby.
Other users deemed the faux-pas “disgraceful,” “racist,” and “vile.” Baker swiftly deleted the picture from his account and apologised, calling it an “enormous mistake.”
Despite his apology, he was fired by BBC. He allegedly launched into a furious rant at Radio 5 Live controller Jonathan Wall, saying “f*** you and f*** off” as he was sacked. On Twitter, he called the BBC’s decision a “masterclass of pompous faux-gravity.”
