The infamous New Zealand sculpture of a hand has been moved from Christchurch to Wellington and placed via helicopter on the roof of the City Gallery.

Designed by Kiwi sculptor Ronnie van Haut, the five meter tall sculpture was commissioned by the Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū in 2016. It has received mixed reviews as many people consider it a ‘nightmare hand’.

One woman took to twitter to express her horror in the new installment saying ‘WHAT ... IS THIS NIGHTMARE’ to which many people agreed that it was disturbing and many thought it was a prank.

The Christchurch Art Gallery says that the hand is ‘a surreal piece of visual fun, it plays with the idea of the artist’s hand as the source of his or her genius’.
